Cohort Default Rate: An Idea Whose Time Has Come—And Gone

While Cohort Default Rate (CDR) may have made sense when it was created, times have changed and CDR doesn’t accurately reflect today’s reality. In fact, recent data would indicate that CDR greatly understates the struggles many student borrowers face with repayment. Perhaps it’s time we re-evaluate CDR to determine whether this measurement actually measures up.
