What to Expect When American Student Assistance Calls

At American Student Assistance® (ASA), our focus is on helping borrowers successfully manage their education debt. There may be times when a counselor from our organization will need to get in touch with you regarding your student loans.

How Do I Know ASA Is Calling?

Our counselor will always give his or her full name and state that they are with American Student Assistance.

If you aren’t home, our counselor will leave a message with our toll-free number and hours of operation so that you may call us back when it’s convenient for you.

Why Would ASA Call Me?

If ASA calls you, it is usually because you are behind on a loan payment. Remember, we are here to help you—not to judge you. Our goal is to listen to you, talk through your options, and then find a loan repayment solution that’s right for you.

If you need assistance while talking to your loan servicer, our counselors are happy to call your servicer with you.

Do I Need to Provide Personal Information?

Yes. In order to help you, our counselors will need to verify your identity. They will ask for your full name, your date of birth, and the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.

Can Someone Else Speak on My Behalf?

Often, a parent or a spouse will want to speak to us on a borrower’s behalf. If someone else wants to speak to us regarding your loans, we must have your consent first. Our counselors are happy to set up a conference call with you and the person you wish to speak on your behalf so that we can get your verbal consent.
