Help Throughout Loan Repayment
Sometimes, student loan repayment hits a few bumps in the road. To help keep you on track, American Student Assistance® (ASA) focuses on different stages throughout the life of your loan. No matter where you are in the loan process, we want to help you.
Repayment Begins
Let us help prepare you for financial independence and loan repayment. We can introduce you to the following information:
Withdrawal From School
If you withdraw from school, ASA® can help you make informed repayment decisions with our student loan checklist. No matter what your situation—you are done attending school, you plan to re-enroll after 6 months, or you plan to transfer—our student loan checklist will help you stay on track.
Falling Behind on Loan Payments
If you are falling behind on your loan payments, we are here to help you understand your options. Depending on your situation, it might make sense for you to change your repayment schedule or postpone your payments.
Deferment or Forbearance Is Ending Soon
When your loan deferment or forbearance comes to an end, be sure to sign up for payment reminders. This way, you can easily stay on top of your loan payments.
Default
Loan default has serious consequences. It’s important to take action right away, and ASA is here to help without judging you. Remember, even if your loan defaulted, you still have options.
Emergence From Default
Even if you default on your student loans, you still have options for recovery. If you can’t afford to pay your loan in full, you can complete a loan rehabilitation program or consolidate out of default. Once you get out of default, it’s important that you stay out of default. Ensure your student loans fit into your finances by using our budget calculator or interactive budget worksheet (pdf, 0.34 MB) .
