As a federal student loan guarantor, American Student Assistance® (ASA) traditionally administered the federal insurance against default, thereby reducing risk for private lenders to participate in student loans.
But today, guarantors bring value not by encouraging lender participation, but by guaranteeing student success. In our current role, ASA® serves students, their families, schools, lenders, and the U.S. Education Department by:
- Helping nearly 2 million student loan borrowers nationwide manage higher education debt successfully through proactive counseling, education, and support.
- Delivering free default prevention support, training, and support to college financial aid professionals.
- Providing the U.S. Department of Education and private lenders with student loan default prevention and recovery services that save the government and taxpayers millions.
- Educating and informing the community as a whole, with general information about borrowing for college.
