Helping High School Students and Adult Learners
The decision to go to school is a moment of possibility and excitement. Students face new career horizons, financial opportunity, and the chance to achieve greater personal fulfillment.
Ensure these borrowers’ positive financial aid experiences by learning what high school students and adult learners need to know about borrowing responsibly.
- Think about how they will afford school. College costs keep increasing. Help borrowers get all the federal money they are entitled to by learning about the financial aid process.
- Think about what they are borrowing. Remind borrowers to not accept loans just because they are offered. Show them how they can borrow only what they need by understanding student loans.
- Think about their tomorrows. Student loans can help borrowers reach their current goals—but those costs can impact their future. Work with borrowers to make sure their loans fit into a plan for overall financial wellness.
What Adult Learners Need to Know
Adult learners have unique needs when it comes to furthering their educations. Keep in mind the following when working these borrowers.
- Tuition reimbursement. Students should ask their employers if they offer tuition reimbursement.
- Enrollment. When students are enrolled at least half time in an eligible degree or certificate program, they are eligible for federal financial aid for college costs.
- Credit standing and financial aid. If students happen to have any loans in default, those loans will need to be rehabilitated before the students can borrow again.
