Loan Purchase Commitment Program
The Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loan Act of 2008 (ECASLA) created several programs, including the Loan Purchase Commitment program. This program enables lenders to sell or “PUT” loans to the U.S. Department of Education (ED).
If one or all of your loans are put to ED, you will receive notification from ED or your previous lender.
For loans that were PUT, you should contact your ED student loan servicer. If you have loans with other servicers, you must contact them as well.

Keep Track of Your Loans
The best way to keep track of all of your federal student loans is the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
NSLDSSM is a repository of all federal loan information. To log on you will need some personal information along with your Federal Student Aid personal identification number (PIN), which you used to complete the FAFSA. If you have forgotten your PIN, you can request a duplicate.
NSLDS shows all your current loan holders—including loans that have been PUT. Remember, if you want to do something like postpone your payments or apply for forgiveness, you must contact each of your loan holders.
