SALT Named a University Business Magazine 2012 Readers’ Choice Top Product
Financial empowerment program demystifies student debt, unburdens college administrators
Boston, MA — SALT™, the financial empowerment membership program created by the nonprofit American Student Assistance® for aspiring, current and former college students, has been selected as a University Business 2012 Readers’ Choice Top Product. The winners were selected by the editors of University Business from nominations submitted by the readership of the magazine, and were based on both the quantity of nominations and the quality of reader descriptions.
“We are honored that SALT, launched less than one year ago, has been recognized by UB readers as a top program,” said Susan Nathan, ASA® vice president of consumer services. “Students overwhelmingly want assistance from their colleges in learning how to manage money. SALT helps higher education institutions help their students and alumni borrow less for their education, borrow wisely, repay loans successfully and build money skills for life, all while freeing up college administrators’ time and workloads.”
More than 110 higher education institutions nationwide - from four-year private institutions to public institutions to community colleges – already have signed on with ASA to provide free SALT memberships to their student and alumni populations.
Using a variety of channels to meaningfully engage members and positively influence behavior, SALT offers proactive communication about student loan repayment options; one-on-one repayment counseling with student loan experts, as well as advocacy and assistance with resolving complex student loan related problems; a personalized online dashboard to track all federal and private student loans in one place and compare payment options; a highly interactive Web financial education curriculum and other educational content via social media; multiple self-serve Web tools and calculators to assist with budgeting; and meaningful benefits and incentives, such as assistance with job/internship and scholarship searches. The first annual University Business Readers’ Choice Top Products award recognizes leaders in the higher education industry and provides university leaders and administrators with the unique opportunity to learn what products their colleagues around the country are using, and how these products contribute to the success of their schools. This is the first time UB readers nominated a variety of products that have made a positive difference at colleges and universities this year. The complete list of products has been announced online and in the December issue of University Business magazine.
“We are pleased to announce the first-ever University Business Top Products list and plan to make it a yearly feature,” said University Business Editor-in-Chief Tim Goral. “The nominations came from a variety of university administrators who have shared their experiences with these products and how they have improved the way their school operates. We hope their insight becomes a valuable resource to our readers and helps them solve their biggest challenges on campus.”
